Object 002, Harmony

A solid titanium art card engraved with a Japanese-inspired design, made as a small object to carry, keep or give.

Precision cut from 0.8 mm Grade 2 commercially pure titanium with a lightly brushed finish and laser marked on both sides. The design combines traditional Seigaiha geometry with a crane in flight and the kanji 和, meaning harmony.

The artwork is created through controlled surface oxidation rather than material removal, producing a subtle silver-on-silver finish that remains crisp and highly legible as the card catches the light. The surface stays smooth and soft to the touch, with no rough engraved edges to catch or snag.

It may be enough simply to enjoy it as a precisely made piece of titanium. The notes below offer my own reading of the design, rather than a fixed interpretation.

For me, this card is about finding harmony between movement and rest.

The crane carries traditional associations of longevity and good fortune, while the repeating Seigaiha waves suggest continuity and enduring peace. The kanji 和 brings those ideas together, harmony, balance and things existing in accord.

Caught just above the ground, the crane could be rising or returning. Either way, the rhythm continues.

Together, the design becomes a quiet reminder that movement and stillness both have their place, and that there is value in finding your own balance between the two.

A note on the finish

The appearance of the laser-marked titanium changes with the angle of light, shifting between subtle silver-on-silver and much higher contrast. Still photographs can only capture one moment of that effect and produce refraction gremlins in the image that aren't there. The product video gives the best impression of how the card looks and feels in the hand. Its a beautiful finish!
